In a notable incident, Egypt's Ministry of Environment staff successfully rescued a rare green sea turtle, which is globally endangered, after it was found inside a seafood shop in the city of Mansoura on Friday. An official statement stated that a joint campaign by the Environmental Affairs Authority targeted a fish shop in the university district, resulting in the seizure of the turtle and the taking of necessary environmental and legal measures to handle it safely, to preserve its life, as it is one of the rare marine organisms covered by legal protection. The green sea turtle, known as Chelonia mydas, is classified as an endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List since 1982, and faces significant risks due to human activities, poaching, and loss of nesting habitats.
